The above image shows the latest Severe Weather Outlook for today from the SPC in Norman, OK. A broad general threat area of severe storms is indicated in the yellow shaded regions. Within the region over the southern and central Plains, there is an area in particular that has the best chance of severe storms, as shown by the red and black hatched area on the image below:
This area with enhanced severe weather potential includes the Springfield, MO, Ft. Smith, AR and Texarkana, TX areas.
A frontal boundary/dryline, is expected to move to a position along the western edge of the above risk area by mid-afternoon. Thunderstorms will initiate along the boundary and move east/northeast into the late afternoon & evening hours. Large hail & damaging winds will be the primary threats, although an isolated tornado cannot be ruled-out.
Meanwhile, a band of strong to severe storms currently over southcentral Texas will continue moving East/Southeast this morning. The activity is expected to reach the I-35 corridor from Austin to San Antonio by mid-morning (likely during the 10 o'clock hour), then reach the coast by mid-afternoon. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is currently in effect for most of this region until 3pm:
