The above Severe Thunderstorm Watch was just issued for much of central & eastern Kansas into southcentral & southeast Nebraska. It is valid until 5pm CDT.
The original thunderstorm band that formed in the Oklahoma & Texas panhandles early this morning continues to lift East/Northeast across the watch area at this time. As the afternoon heats up and the atmosphere destabilizes, some of the storms are likely to become severe. Large hail & damaging winds will be the primary severe weather threat... although an isolated tornado also cannot be ruled out, particularly with any isolated storms that are able to develop separate from the main thunderstorm area.
Re-development of severe thunderstorms is still expected to take place later this afternoon or early evening in southwest Kansas, along the dryline. This activity would have more tornado producing potential, assuming the atmosphere recovers from morning thunderstorms & the new activity is able to properly organize.
