Severe Weather Update - Southeast & Mid-Atlantic

As you can see by the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast U.S. radar mosaics below, strong to severe storms are impacting portions of Kentucky, Tennessee and Mississippi....


....as well as portions of Virginia and the Carolinas...


Severe Thunderstorm Watches are in effect for the same areas, as well as points East this evening.


The most intense and organized activity at present is over western Tennessee and much of northern Mississippi, as shown by the radar image below:


Strong, damaging wind gusts and large hail are the greatest threats from a large "bow echo" configuration like this, however tornadoes sometimes occur on the leading edge of the bow.  A Tornado Warning is in effect currently for the area within the pinkish colored polygon over northeast Mississippi.

Adjacent residents of Alabama and middle Tennessee should remain alert as this activity will be heading your way throughout the evening...
